Ronda Rousey made history, especially in the UFC. But everything has a price. The fighter received many blows in the octagon, especially towards the end of her career. Rousey has been open about her health issues stemming from a history of concussions since her judo days. She has had a lot of help dealing with the hardships: UFC CEO and Ronda's friend Dana White.
“I don't regret it or anything like that. Thankfully, I now have a lot more information about what was going on with me. I just felt like I couldn’t be honest about what I was going through physically without people thinking I was making excuses for myself. I also felt like I didn’t owe anyone an explanation, especially if they were going to vent. So yeah, I needed to figure out what was going on first,” she said. “Dana sent me to a neurological study of long-term fighters and they really made some — I wouldn’t call it breakthroughs, but they were able to diagnose a lot of the things that were going on with me and I think they still are. I just didn’t have all the information at the time. So I couldn’t give myself that information at the time to better explain things now, so no, I don’t dwell on that. It was the best I could do with what I had,” she said.
The fighter is now facing the diagnosis and looking for ways to improve her symptoms. Although she probably won't return to the cage, she is looking to have a better quality of life.
“Now that I’m getting some help with the diagnosis and stuff like that, I’m a lot more hopeful than I’ve ever been, and instead of just thinking, ‘Okay, this is just part of the problem, I need to get out of it before it gets worse,’ maybe there’s something I can do to make it better. I just didn’t have that information back then. I didn’t know what to say other than there was something going on with me and I couldn’t fight it anymore.”
