Kamaru's brother Mohammed Usman ends rival's unbeaten streak at UFC Baku

If the UFC Atlanta, last Saturday (14), ended with Kamaru's victory in the main fight, the UFC Baku, this Saturday (21), also started with a victory for the Usman family. Younger and heavier brother of the former welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg), Mohammed Usman derrotou Hamdy Abdelwahab in a duel valid for heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg) and ended the Egyptian's invincibility in professional MMA.

After a poor start to the fight, in which he even swayed after a blow from Abdelwahab, Usman aligned his strategy and dominated the fight in the following rounds, with a lot of movement, to win the fight, in a comeback, by unanimous decision of the judges (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

As a result, Mohammed Usman recovered from a two-fight losing streak and won for the fourth time in the UFC octagon. On the other hand, Hamdy Abdelwahab suffered the first defeat of his career, which had included six triumphs and one fight without a result.

The Nigerian circled around well, returned to the center of the octagon and landed a good right punch to the Egyptian's face. Abdelwahab continued moving forward and working boxing variations, while Usman struck while moving backwards, mainly with straight punches. The Egyptian tried to corner Usman against the fence, but the Nigerian ran away and returned to the middle of the octagon. In the final stretch, Mohammed Usman landed a straight punch to the face of Hamdy Abdelwahab, who felt it and was cornered until the last sound of the gong.

Dariya Zhelezniakova gets revenge and beats Melissa Mullins in rematch

The fourth fight of UFC Baku presented a rematch in the women's bantamweight division (up to 61,2 kg). Defeated in the first confrontation, still outside the Ultimate, Dariya Zhelezniakova got revenge and defeated Melissa Mullins in the unanimous decision of the judges (29-28, 30-27, 30-27). With great dynamism and precision in the stand-up fight, the Russian hurt the British woman's face a lot and controlled the fight to come out with the victory.

With the result, the 'Iron Lady' recovers from the defeat suffered against Argentina Ailin Perez, in September last year, and achieved his second victory in the organization.

On the other side, Melissa Mullins cannot continue the triumph over Klaudia Sygula and continues to alternate positive and negative results in his career in the Ultimate.

In the first women's fight in UFC history in Baku, Azerbaijan, Klaudia Sygula defied predictions and dominated the 'Russian Round' Irina Alekseeva to win by unanimous decision of the judges (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) in a duel valid for the bantamweight (up to 61,2 kg). More precise and forceful on the feet, the Polish punished the Russian throughout most of the 15 minutes of combat and won an easy decision.

The victory in UFC Baku was the first of Klaudia Sygula in the organization. The Polish had debuted with a defeat to Melissa Mullins in November last year.

On the other side, Irina Alekseeva suffers her second consecutive defeat in the octagon. The Russian also came from a setback to Melissa Mullins in the last appearance, in October 2023.

Tagir Ulabenkov suffers but beats Azat Maksum in controversial decision

Valid for the flyweight division (up to 56,7 kg), the second fight of the UFC Baku excited the crowd in the capital of Azerbaijan. After three very busy rounds, Tagir Ulanbekov derrotou Azat Maksum by unanimous decision of the judges (29-28, 30-27, 30-27). Despite being the clear favorite for the fight, the Russian had a lot of difficulty dealing with the dynamism and impactful takedowns of the Kazakh, who made the defeat costly. The result, in fact, was highly contested by the audience in the arena right after the announcement.

Controversy or not, Tagir Ulabenkov has his fourth consecutive victory in the UFC and defends his 12th position in the flyweight rankings. Azat Maksum, on the other hand, suffers its second consecutive defeat and has not won since its debut in the organization, in July 2023.
