The heavyweight champion 'crown' (up to 120,2kg) was transferred to Tom aspinall after retirement of 'Bones' being announced by Dana White at a press conference UFC Baku, this Saturday (21). The British fighter had been interim champion of the division since 2023. But the end of the journey of one of the greatest names in MMA of all time will not go unnoticed by a serious case to be resolved in the state of New Mexico (USA).

Last Tuesday (17), Jon Jones was issued a criminal summons for leaving the scene of an accident. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 24 for a bond hearing. According to the Albuquerque Journal, the traffic accident occurred on February 21, when an Albuquerque police officer found a woman in the passenger seat of a car with "signs of intoxication and no clothing from the waist down." The victim said the driver of the car was Jones and he fled the scene on foot.

According to the local Albuquerque newspaper, the woman told police that she had consumed alcohol and mushrooms at Jones' house and had to change her clothes there. Afterwards, she only remembered being at the scene of the traffic accident and the last person she remembered driving the car was Jon Jones. The still-fighter reportedly called her phone 13 times from after the accident until the next morning.

At 37, Jon Jones He ends his career with a record of 28 wins, one loss by disqualification and one fight without a result, consolidating his status as one of the greatest fighters in the history of MMA.

He started MMA in 2008, made a lightning debut in the UFC and in March 2011, at 23 years and eight months, became the youngest champion in UFC history by knocking out legend Maurício “Shogun” Rua at UFC 128.

In the light heavyweight division, he was the absolute master of the category: he defended the belt 11 times, facing and defeating names such as Rampage jackson, Lyoto Machida, Vitor belfort, Alexander Gustafson e Daniel Cormier.

In 2020, Jones decided to drop out of light heavyweight and make the jump to heavyweight. After a three-year absence from the octagon, he returned in March 2023 and finished Cyryl Gane in the first round, winning the belt in the new category. In November 2024, he knocked out Stipe Miocic with a spinning back kick, with his first and only heavyweight title defense, reaffirming his legendary legacy.
