During a brief analysis of the duel, Dustin poirier stated that the dynamics in the grappling fight will likely determine the course of the fight in favor of both the Russian and the Australian.

The statement was made this Wednesday (25) in an interview with journalist Mike Bohn, on the podcast 'The Bohnfire'. According to Diamante, the main doubts regarding the technical fit of the two athletes will be answered in the first two rounds.
“I think we’ll find out in the first or second round how much trouble he (Islam) has taking (Jack) down. If Islam can get those takedowns, he’ll get the win. If Jack can stop them — which he did (against Belal) — I think his boxing and size can wear Islam down and cause him problems,” he said.

When addressing the impact that the threat of a takedown brings to the exchange, Poirier cited the Russian's unorthodox style. The Diamond ended up finishing with an arm triangle in the fifth and final round when he faced Makhachev in the main event of the UFC 302.
“Islam’s striking is awkward and different. You have to worry so much about getting taken down that you can’t plant your feet and attack with those number combinations because he’ll change levels — so it changes the way you fight,” concluded the American.
