Renowned MMA coach Ronny Markes wins gold medal in jiu-jitsu tournament

Potiguar reached first place on the podium after finishing three opponents on the AJP Tour; veteran is in charge of the Porrada Training Center academy

The Nélio Dias Gymnasium, in Natal, was the stage for great jiu-jitsu competitions last weekend, during the AJP Tour North East Brazil Regional 2025, one of the sport's most important events in the country. The event brought together more than 800 competitors, including colored and black belts, both male and female, as well as youth and masters categories.

Um dos grandes vencedores da competição foi o renomado técnico e atleta de MMA e jiu-jitsu, Ronny Markes. Veterano, o potiguar já treinou nomes Bruno Capelozza, Magomed Ankalaev, Alexander Volkov, Francis Ngannou e também representou organizações como UFC, Bellator e PFL. Conhecido pelo estilo agressivo durante confrontos, o faixa preta subiu ao pódio, em primeiro lugar, após vencer três lutas, sendo todas por finalização.

Promoted by Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP), the championship earned significant points for the organization's world rankings and attracted athletes from various regions of Brazil, solidifying the sport's growth in the Northeast. In addition to traditional gi (gi) matches, the event also featured No-GI matches, where athletes compete without wearing a gi.

Ronny currently lives in Las Vegas and manages the Porrada Training Center gym alongside Marcelo Marques. The gym hosts Ankalaev when the light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg) travels to the city to sharpen his arsenal. Volkov and other stars of the sport attend the training sessions daily.
