Holloway expresses great happiness as he highlights the chances of a rematch against Topuria next

BMF Champion does not hesitate to mention his great interest in seeking revenge against the person responsible for the only knockout defeat in his career

BMF Ultimate Champion, Max Holloway prepares for first title defense against his rival Dustin poirier, at UFC 318, on July 19. The bookmakers' favorite, the fighter is not only looking to avenge the two losses he suffered against his compatriot, but also for the opportunity to become a strong contender for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg) next.

Contrary to what many may think, the Hawaiian appears to have gained courage after Ilia Topuria having moved up to his current division. Despite the tough knockout he suffered at the hands of the Spanish-Georgian, the 'Blessed One' says he was thrilled with the potential chance to get revenge on his last MMA tormentor.

“I was so happy. A lot of people thought I was going to be like, ‘Oh my God, what the hell? Why is he coming to 70 pounds?’ I was so happy when he announced he was coming to 70 pounds. And when I found out he got the title shot, I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ I think I was the happiest man in the world (…) we have this BMF title, so I know the old boy likes to walk around with a BMF title, but if he wants a real title, he needs to find me,” Holloway told MMA Junkie.

Even as he seeks to return to winning ways, Holloway does not rule out the possibility of a resounding victory over Poirier potentially catapulting him to a lightweight title shot in the very near future.

“You’re only as good as your last fight. The UFC is about moments. You go in there, I’ll make a moment, just like in UFC 300We had the chance to create moments, and I can go out there and create a moment, get everyone excited about it. Who's to say I won't be fighting for the title at the end of the year or early next year?" he concluded.

Currently ranked fifth in the division, Holloway will compete at UFC 318 on July 19 against Poirier. The Hawaiian confidently assures that he won't become the athlete who loses every trilogy in his career. This is due to the fact that his compatriot is two wins ahead and has never won. Alexander Volkanovsky in the three opportunities he had in the Ultimate.
