The UFC's heavyweight division (up to 120,2 pounds) just got a little more dangerous. The organization announced recently the hiring of the multiple world jiu-jitsu champion Marcus Buchecha for his roster of fighters. Although he's a ground game specialist, the black belt is willing to do whatever it takes to overcome his rivals inside the world's most famous octagon.
During participation in the podcast Renato Moicano, Marcus Buchecha revealed that during his fight against 'Reug Reug', he had to improvise after suffering a knee injury that prevented him from following through with his initial takedown strategy. The black belt uses the champion Alexandre pantoja as an example to be followed and states that the ability to adapt is one of the main qualities of a good fighter.

"It happened to me (changing strategy), I blew out my knee, and I couldn't keep taking him down, so I had to improvise... A good fighter adapts to any situation. He'll take you down, and if he can't, he'll put his hand on you. How many times have we seen this happen with Pantoja? Everyone knows he's the one to take you down, but he often puts his hand on you, and the guys go down," said Buchecha.
The multiple jiu-jitsu champion also highlighted the importance of having alternatives within the fight plan.
"You have to have a plan B and a plan C, in case B doesn't work. Just like 'Parrumpa' says: 'My brother, the champion will find a way.' So, if plan A doesn't work, he has to find a way to win," concluded the multiple jiu-jitsu champion.
