Brazil has a new name in the UFC welterweight rankings (up to 77,1 kg). In an update released this Tuesday (15), the organization included Gabriel Marretinha in the top 15 of the category. The Brazilian moved up to 14th place on the list after a victory over the veteran Stephen Thompson.

Gabriel Marretinha defeated 'Wonderboy' by split decision after a close duel in the co-main event of the UFC Nashville, last Saturday. The victory over the former welterweight title challenger was the third consecutive for the Brasilia native, who has five wins and only one loss since joining the organization, signed through the Contender Series, in 2022.

With Marretinha, Brazil has three representatives in the top 15 welterweights

With the inclusion of Gabriel Marretinha, Brazil now has three athletes among the top 15 UFC welterweights. The 27-year-old from Brasilia joins the 'Nightmare' Carlos Prates, 12th in the ranking, and to the veteran Gilbert Durinho, former title challenger and currently ranked 10th in the division led by the Australian Jack Della Maddalena.

With this, the welterweight division becomes, in isolation, the men's weight category with the most Brazilians in the top 15.
