After earning a close split decision victory over the veteran Stephen Thompson No. UFC Nashville, this Saturday (12), Gabriel Marretinha left the Octagon expecting to enter the welterweight rankings (up to 77 kg). But, far from being excited about the result, the Brazilian expressed discomfort with the behavior of fans, especially his compatriots, on social media.

Marretinha stated that he doesn't mind being booed by local fans in the United States, since "it's the guy's home." What really bothers him is the negativity coming from Brazilians.

"I get upset with Brazilians. Because when they steal from Americans, they suck up and don't say anything. But when it's with us, people aren't being patriotic. It's Brazil, it's about supporting each other. (...) People are annoying, always saying the same thing. They debate among themselves in the comments," said Marretinha in an interview with 'Ag Fight'.

The victory over Thompson, a former title challenger in the division and now ranked among the top 15, represented Marretinha's third consecutive victory in the UFC and his 'entry' into the rankings, now occupying 14th place among welterweights.

Jean Silva has also criticized Brazilian fans

Gabriel Marretinha is not alone in his discomfort with Brazilians' attitudes on social media. In early April, the featherweight (up to 65,7 kg) Jean Silva, after victory in UFC 314, also harshly criticized part of the national fans.

He stated that he's "cried a lot" over the trials and believes that most Brazilian internet users are rooting against him. Jean even stated that he prefers to fight abroad, where he feels more valued.
