Understand the case

During Tuff-N-UFF 145, an MMA event held in Las Vegas on June 29, the former UFC champion invaded the cage e attacked the fighter Luis Hernandez with punches.

The confusion happened right after Hernandez finished Miles Hunsiger with a standing guillotine and celebrated by making obscene gestures towards his rival's corner, which had Sean Strickland and also the UFC fighter Chris Curtis.

Immediately after the provocation, the pair of UFC athletes invaded the cage and went towards Hernandez, who retreated to the fence. While Curtis merely intimidated, Strickland hit the fighter with two punches before being removed by the referee.

Fighter assaulted by Strickland tells his version

In an interview with Canadian journalist Ariel Helwani, Luis Hernandez gave his version of events. The middleweight (up to 83,9 kg) stated that the obscene gestures after the victory were merely a response to provocations from the former champion during the fight.

“It’s fucked up, man. We were fighting and they were talking in the middle of the fight. You only say what you can stand to hear. This is entertainment. He said some things, I said some things and I don’t think he liked what he heard. He was talking shit, saying I was tired, making fun of me, I think he called me fat. I said, ‘Fuck you,’” Sean Strickland' and he punched me. He did that, but I kept standing and smiling. I hope to be in the UFC soon,” said the athlete.
