Although not scheduled for the UFC Abu Dhabi, Charles of the Bronx has reason to regret the event. His teammate at Chute Boxe Diego Lima, José Ochoa, even attempted submissions, but was no match for the grappling of Asu Almabayev in a duel valid for the flyweight division (up to 56,7 kg).

With the loss, Ochoa suffered his second career loss. Almabayev now has 22 wins and defends his ninth-place ranking in the division.

José Ochoa attempts submissions but loses on points at UFC Abu Dhabi

Ochoa started the fight dominating the center of the octagon, but, still in the first minute, Asu Almabayev managed to wrap his waist and take the fight to the fence. Halfway through the round, the Peruvian broke free and landed a good kick, but Asu closed in again and took his back. In the final stretch, the Chute Boxe athlete managed to escape again, and after his opponent missed a spinning kick, it was his turn to take his back, though without enough time to work a submission.

In the second round, Ochoa managed to defend two takedowns from Almabayev, but in the second minute, he was taken down by the Kazakh representative. The athletes exchanged positions on the ground, with neither gaining complete control, until the fight returned to the feet. Not giving any chance to chance, Asu took the Peruvian down once more and exerted top control, but was nearly caught out by an armbar and then a triangle choke.

In the final round, José Ochoa knew he was behind and needed the finish. As Asu was taken down, the Peruvian locked in a guillotine choke, but lacked the strength to finish. He then attempted a triangle choke, but the Kazakh defended well and remained on top until the end, securing the unanimous decision victory.
