In a rare speech, Charles did not let the setback he suffered Ilia Topuria aside, but highlighted the bitterness of the episode lived against Islam makhachev, at UFC 280, where he ended up being submitted by the Russian in the second round. In the view of Chute Boxe representative Diego Lima, everything changed in a fraction of a second, and to this day he is trying to understand why.

"I can put this fight (Topuria), I can put it against Islam (Makhachev) in Abu Dhabi. I've been trying to find something for the Abu Dhabi fight, but I still can't. Not because of a mistake, but because I was there, because I was able to fight. I was in the mood until they switched me. I was there to enter, then I walked through the crowd to get to the other side. Up until that point, I was in the fight, good and ready. 'Charles, Charles, switch!' Then everyone passed by, and they put me kind of hidden (lowered) like that, and by the time I was there (in the new spot), I was no longer there. It's crazy," Charles admitted. Fighting Mode TV.

Following his speech, the athlete made a point of highlighting the merits of his rival, who managed to capitalize at the right moment to defeat him.

“Like: 'Why am I here? I don't know what I'm doing here, it's not that I don't want to, I don't know what I'm doing here.' And he did what he does best, which is to set the pace and impose it, he managed to connect and beat me.”

Finally, Do Bronx recalled the last setback he suffered, when he was knocked out by Topuria and lamented an unprecedented situation in his career.

"And I think this fight against Ilia is because I've never been knocked out. I've fought those guys, I've taken hard knockdowns, I've come back, I've fallen, and I've never been knocked out. I don't know how I got out of the cage; I asked myself many times: 'I didn't leave on a stretcher, did I? You don't leave on a stretcher, do you?'" he concluded.
