"A lot of things get done between negotiations, and you never know what's real and what's not. One thing I know in my heart from all the years I've been training fighters: Fighters aren't afraid of anyone. So when people say, 'Oh, he doesn't want to fight,' 'Okay, then why are you here?' Fighters are fighters. Circumstances can prevent them from fighting because maybe there isn't the right amount of money, maybe it's not that, but it's not the opponent. The timing, the money, whatever is involved, but I'm never afraid of that fighter. Never. I refuse to believe that any real fighter will always avoid something. I don't think so. I don't believe that," Mendez told MMA Junkie.
