At 39, Gilbert Durinho faces one of the most delicate challenges of his career. In an interview with MMA Junkie, the Brazilian revealed that he is currently in the UFC's concussion protocol and has not yet been cleared to return to full training. Therefore, his return to the Octagon is unlikely to happen until the end of the year, possibly between December and January.
"I had a minor concussion. I'm not cleared yet, so I need to complete a few steps of the protocol before returning to training. I still need to take it easy. It was a big one, but I'm aiming for December," said the fighter.

Durinho also revealed interest in a possible opponent for his return: Daniel Rodriguez, which recently won Kevin holland and rose in the category rankings.
“I think it would be a fun fight. Me and Daniel Rodriguez in December, maybe January. We'll see how the protocol evolves. You don't mess with the brain. We have to take this very seriously," the Brazilian reinforced.
Durinho is going through a difficult time in the UFC
A former welterweight title challenger, Durinho is going through a difficult period in the division. He has four consecutive losses, two of them by knockout. Expected to be in the UFC Rio bout, which is scheduled for October, the Brazilian would not be eligible to compete on the card at home.
The Brazilian's last fight was a knockout loss to MichaelMorales, in May of this year. The outcome happened in the first round.
