In another takedown attempt, the Brazilian ended up on the bottom. Ribovics defended against the sweep attempt, but Elves managed to get back to his feet. The Brazilian connected with a good jab and straight combination, but the Argentinian responded with a clean cross. Better on his feet, Ribovics landed excellent combinations of strikes on the Brazilian's face. One of these strikes sent Elves to the canvas. The Argentinian went all out for ground and pound, but the Brazilian managed to recover and get back to his feet. In the final stretch of the round, Ribovics landed a knee strike, but Elves absorbed it well.
Elves Brener started the second round controlling the distance better, avoiding a 'shootout' with Esteban Ribovics . However, the faster Argentinian circled the Brazilian and continued to work dangerous combinations. Elves attacked with a single leg takedown, Ribovics defended, but received a cross from the Brazilian on the way out. Elves' jabs landed, but the Argentinian responded with combinations of three or more punches. The Brazilian slipped, but Ribovics preferred to let him get up rather than engage in a grappling fight. In the final stretch, Elves continued to be successful at distance, mainly with jabs, finishing the second round ahead in total significant strikes.
Showing respect, the two athletes embraced in the center of the octagon at the beginning of the third round.
