Edson Barboza fights to the end, but loses to Drakkar Klose in his return to lightweight
The first round was evenly matched, but Edson performed well. He landed some solid strikes against the fence and tied the fight. In the final stretch, however, he complained of a headbutt that made him sway. Parrumpinha, his coach, called for adjustments for the second round, even though the fight started poorly.
A spinning kick, followed by a strong right hand, nearly led to Edson being knocked out by Klose on his feet. The American stopped punching and tried to tire the Brazilian against the fence. The fight returned to the feet in the center of the octagon, becoming open, with both fighters exchanging heavy blows. Edson also had one eye nearly closed, caused by his opponent's punches.
The third round marked a change in Edson's stance, landing the legs, despite being exhausted. The Nova Friburgo native worked his spins in the octagon and was hit by Klose, who marched forward and came close to a knockout on several occasions. The fight was well-received by the crowd, who applauded the actions of both fighters.
