The time has come for Alex Poatan to focus on his preparation for the rematch against Magomed Ankalaev. The Brazilian has been heavily criticized for his... traveling during the preparation period for UFC 320, scheduled for October 4, but, according to him, the phase of intensified training is still about to begin.

In an interview with UFC Fight Pass, Poatan explained that, since transitioning to MMA, his preparations to step into the octagon have always lasted six weeks. The former champion, who was in Chicago to attend UFC 319, stated that now, in the final stretch before the fight against Ankalaev, he will be fully focused on his training camp.

“There are seven or eight weeks left, and if you look at my training camp since I joined the UFC, it's been six weeks. I've been training non-stop. In the last six weeks, I've intensified my training and planned for six weeks, and that's what I'm going to do. I'm going back to Connecticut now, and for those who followed, I was in Brazil doing physical conditioning, then I came back and kept training. Now I'm going to accelerate, six weeks ahead,” said Alex Poatan.

In his first fight against Ankalaev, Poatan failed to impose his game, losing by unanimous decision and being dethroned in the light heavyweight division (up to 93kg). Now, in the rematch, the former champion guarantees that only a few adjustments will be made to increase his chances of victory.

"A few things, a few adjustments... I hope to have a good day, strong, with my body in good shape, well-trained, just like we've been doing. And some technical adjustments, but they're minor," he reported.

One of the episodes that generated the most criticism among fans was Poatan's trip to Uruguay to film a movie. Many questioned whether the belt was still his priority in his career.

Alex Poatan, however, highlighted the personal importance of the upcoming fight, emphasizing that it is part of the journey he has been building in the UFC, marked by both victories and defeats.

“It means a lot. It’s the continuation of my story. I entered the UFC, I went through this whole journey, I won, I lost, then I won the top belt, then I lost it and I’m going to win it again. I’m doing well, I’m confident. I know there’s defeat and victory, but I’m training well and doing everything to recover the belt, and I’m going to give my all,” concluded Alex Poatan.
