The victory of Khamzat Shimaev about Dricus du Plessis in the title fight in the main event of UFC 319, last Saturday (16), was undeniably dominant. Despite such dominance, however, the performance of 'Lobo' did not please all fans and much less the former champion's coach.

In an interview with the 'Submission Radio' podcast after the fight, Morne Visser, head coach of Dricus du Plessis, criticized Chimaev for his 'boring' performance.

"There's a statistic that shows Khamzat landed 570 strikes, and only 37 were significant. He did enough, controlled the positions well, and did enough to prevent the referee from standing them up. I think when things are as slow as they were, keep the fight standing up, man. The fight was boring, and yes, we're guilty of making it boring too, but we just needed an extra minute at the end. The fight was permeated with boredom, and I don't think the crowd was happy. Three minutes into the fight, they were already booing Khamzat for simply holding Dricus to the ground," said the coach.

Morne Visser took advantage of the space to also defend himself from the criticism he received due to his work with Dricus du Plessis between rounds. The coach said he was surprised that Chimaev was able to repeat the strategy throughout the five rounds.

"After the first round, the first thing I asked Dricus was if he was okay. I told him that was the best Khamzat had. I just didn't think he'd go five rounds. After the third, I told him we were losing and asked if he wanted to take him down. We learned a lot and have a lot to improve on," he concluded.
