Acelino Popo returned to position itself on the frustrated expectation of fighting against Vitor belfort in boxing. In response to his followers, the four-time world champion stated that the decision not to fight the former UFC champion was not his, but Vitor's, who, according to the Bahia native, chose a different path.
“It wasn’t me who didn’t want to fight, it was Vitor. You know what Vitor wants? He wants to get Wanderlei Silva. Wanderlei Silva He's a top guy—in his sport, Muay Thai and MMA. In Pride, he was one of the top of the top in the world, in the UFC too—not as much as in Pride, but in Pride, Wand was top. I'm a fan, I'm not saying anything bad here, but I know everyone's limitations. And Vitor chose this," Popó said.

Popó also commented on Belfort's performance in his fight against Evander Holyfield, which took place in September 2021, and which, for him, was not successful.
"Nobody even knows that Vitor fought Holyfield. He messed up so badly that nobody remembers. He didn't even let the guy fight; it was a fiasco," said the Bahia native about the way the fight was handled.
Popó x Vitor Belfort
The fight was even considered for 2024, after Popó accepted Belfort's challenge. Negotiations have begun with Triller Fight Club for a fight in the United States, scheduled for September 2024, during the Fight Music Show 5.
However, differences over the weight limit and contractual issues prevented a final agreement. Without a formal consensus, the duel ultimately fell through.
In the end, Popó moved on and faced names like Jorge El Chino and Duda Nagle. Vitor, in turn, had his return confirmed for Spaten Fight Night and will have a rematch against Wanderlei Silva on September 27th.
