Renato Moicano explains how Carlos Prates can jump the queue and fight for the UFC belt: 'This is the truth'

Renato Moicano believes that Carlos Prates may be one victory away from challenging for the UFC welterweight title (up to 77kg). After knocking out Geoff Neal at UFC 319 and challenging Leon Edwards , the Fighting Nerds smoker was scheduled to face the former champion at UFC 322, which, according to the Brazilian, could put him very close to the belt.

In a video published on his YouTube channel, Renato Moicano highlighted Carlos Prates ' current form and stated that, despite his defeat to Ian Garry , the Brazilian could overtake the Irishman in the title race if he wins against Leon Edwards.

“ Carlos Prates is on a fantastic run, moving forward, being happy, my brother. He lost to Ian Garry , but he will most likely be ahead of Garry in the rankings. By beating Leon Edwards , he will jump ahead of everyone in this category. We know, Leon Edwards is a former champion. If Carlos Cigarro goes there and knocks him out, he can jump straight to fighting for the belt,” said Renato Moicano.

The Brazilian fighter assessed that, even with Sean Brady 's recent dominance over Leon Edwards , a potential knockout by Carlos Prates would have more impact. He believes the UFC's interest in promoting big shows, especially in a year marked by the partnership with Paramount, would mean that a resounding victory for the smoker would be enough to immediately put him in a prominent position in the division.

"Even though Sean Brady dominated Leon Edwards , Carlos Prates , with a knockout, comes out on top. Because yes, simple as that. The bald guy wants to sell, next year there's Paramount, he wants a knockout, and that's the truth," concluded Moicano.

Signed through the Contender Series, Carlos Prates impressed from the moment he arrived in the UFC. The smoker won his first four fights by knockout and earned four Performance Bonuses. However, in his fifth fight, the Brazilian was defeated by Ian Garry in a five-round bout.

Upon his return at UFC 319, Prates continued his winning streak with a brutal knockout of Geoff Neal , securing him the ninth spot in the division.
