"He and his team said I was scared, and now they are too. But I'd already been in talks with the UFC, I already had a date. Ankalaev kept saying he'd be ready in June, July, August, and September. The champion can't even choose a date to fight... I already had the whole fight schedule: it would be August or October. August didn't work out, so it was October. We see the lack of credibility he has with the UFC, being champion, being ready and waiting for the challenger," said Poatan.
Poatan explained that the rematch took so long to be confirmed because of him. The Brazilian claims he had to recover from injuries, and since the organization had promised him the next challenger, he simply waited for the best date to fight.
"I had to recover. I had four fights in less than a year, and they promised me I'd be the next challenger. So I just waited for the best date for me. October is shaping up to be a very good date. If he was ready in June, we can see he has no moral standing: the champion will have to wait for me," he concluded. Alex Poatán.
