Mauricio Ruffy exposed his biggest flaw in the co-main event of UFC Paris, held last Saturday (6). The fighter faced Benoit Saint-Denis and, despite being the favorite, he was dominated in the first round and finalized in the second stage, in a performance that caught Marcos Parrumpinha's attention in a negative way.
Participating in the MMA Hoje podcast, Parrumpinha pointed out that the performance of Mauricio Ruffy presented significant flaws, especially in grappling. The coach reinforced that Benoit Saint-Denis managed not only to knock down the Brazilian, but to advance positions with ease.

"Bro, Benoit was already mounted within a minute of the fight. And it wasn't just about taking him down: he (Luffy) had no idea about the ground, how to lock half-guard, how to restore guard, how to escape with his hips... My brother, Benoit took the takedown and then mounted. The problem isn't just wrestling and takedown defense; the problem is also on the ground. It was extremely easy for Benoit there... The ground was more flawed than his takedown defense. Forgive me... The guy was taken down and then mounted, then took the back, man, brother... White belt," said the American Top Team coach.
Despite the failures, Parrumpinha believes that the defeat will serve as a learning experience for both Luffy and his team, the Fighting Nerds.
"The only solution is death... The problem is that we all want immediate solutions. For example, hoping that in six months, or when Luffy's next fight comes around, the guy will be good as hell (in grappling)—that's not going to happen, bro. He'll get better, and I believe this loss will make the Fighting Nerds guys better," Parrumpinha said.
With the defeat, Mauricio Ruffy reached the second defeat in his career, the first in the UFC. He has Benoit Saint-Denis reinforced its good form and now has two consecutive victories after having suffered two consecutive defeats.
