Inactive since victory over Stipe Miocic in November 2024, Jon Jones appears to have been interested in returning to the Octagon after Dana White announced an event at the White House. Back on the doping test and determined to perform on June 4th of next year, the athlete doesn't have the confidence of his former rival, Chael Sonnen.

Despite declaring on social media that he's training to be called up for the upcoming edition, even if Dana isn't enthusiastic, Jones' actions have been questioned by the veteran. In Sonnen's view, his compatriot is mocking the company and the fans.

"He's acting like that retirement never happened, instead of it being a comeback. If you're coming back, why are you coming back? What are you coming back for? And is it just a free pass to fight anyone? Anyone but that guy, that guy from England (Aspinall). Anyone but him. Is that how we're supposed to interpret this?" Sonnen asked during the show "Good Guy / Bad Guy."

Finally, the commentator highlighted the lack of records proving the former champion's genuine effort to return to the Octagon. More than a month after 'Bones' declared his determination to fight in the event, Chael questioned why no one knows how he's preparing for his next fight.

“Here’s the problem: nothing leaked on Instagram. No one is saying they trained with Jon Jones. No one is saying they saw Jon Jones train. Most importantly, no one claims to be his coach. He has a legendary coach, at a gym that has yet to be identified, training with people who have never been named… I just think this is all too much. Like, if he came here to Oregon and we saw him at the gym, there would be a line and people would be asking for autographs; it would be a big deal,” he concluded.

At 38, Jones isn't counting on Dana's goodwill to be present at UFC Casa Branca. He was previously confident that the fighter would face Tom aspinall for the unification of titles, now the president declares that the chance of being interested in calling the sports legend to the event is one in a billion.
