The climate of rivalry between Diego lopes e Jean Silva went beyond the limits of the octagon in the edition of Night UFC, held last Saturday (13), in San Antonio (USA). After knocking out his compatriot with a spinning elbow in the second round, the Manaus native had to deal with a controversial gesture from his opponent: a punch in the back, right after the end of the fight.

In the post-event interview, Diego did not hide his dissatisfaction with the attitude of Jean Silva and demanded more respect from his rival. The blow came shortly after the referee's stoppage, at a time when he had already moved away from his opponent.

"After (the knockout), Jean punched me in the back of the head. What happened? I don't know. After that, this guy tried to be nice to me. I don't understand it. Are you trying to be my friend? Go back to your side. This guy punched me in the head, in the back of the head. I don't think that's cool," Lopes criticized, visibly upset by the situation.

The tension between the two had been building since the confrontation was confirmed. Jean Silva, undefeated in the UFC until then, was riding a five-fight winning streak—all by quick wins—and was considered one of the top rising names in the featherweight division. The rivalry with Lopes was fueled by mutual provocations in the weeks leading up to the fight, which helped heighten public anticipation.

Inside the octagon, the fight lived up to the hype. Despite the initial dominance of Diego lopesJean fought back in the second round and leveled the playing field. However, in the second round, a spinning elbow from the Manaus native was the beginning of the end of the fight and secured another impressive victory for the Brazilian, who is looking to get back on track to the top of the division after a loss to the champion.
