The rivalry between Diego Lopes and Jean Silva went beyond the limits of the octagon at the Noche UFC event , held last Saturday (13), in San Antonio (USA). After knocking out his compatriot with a spinning elbow in the second round, the man from Manaus had to deal with a controversial gesture from his opponent: a punch from behind, right after the end of the fight.

In the post-event interview, Diego did not hide his dissatisfaction with Jean Silva 's attitude and demanded more respect from his rival. The blow occurred immediately after the referee's stoppage, at a moment when he had already moved away from his opponent.

"After (the knockout), Jean punched me in the back of the head. What happened? I don't know. After that, this guy tried to be nice to me. I don't understand it. Are you trying to be my friend? Go back to your side. This guy punched me in the head, in the back of the head. I don't think that's cool," Lopes criticized, visibly upset by the situation.

Tension between the two had been building since the fight was confirmed. Jean Silva , undefeated in the UFC at the time, was riding a five-fight winning streak – all by stoppage – and was considered one of the top rising stars in the featherweight division. The rivalry with Lopes was fueled by mutual provocations in the weeks leading up to the fight, which helped to heighten public anticipation.

Inside the octagon, the duel lived up to the hype. Despite Diego Lopes ' initial dominance , Jean reacted in the second round and evened the fight. However, in the second round, a spinning elbow delivered by the Manaus native was the beginning of the end of the contest and secured another impressive victory for the Brazilian, who seeks to return to the top of the division after a loss to champion Alexander Volkanovski in his previous fight.
