Accustomed to dominating the global kickboxing scene with his aggressive and powerful stand-up style, Rico Verhoeven showed he also has unexpected resources when it comes to grappling. In a relaxed sparring session with the current UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 lbs.), Tom aspinall, the Dutchman had an unusual moment when he took down the Englishman.
The moment, which went viral on social media, was recorded and posted by Verhoeven himself on his official Instagram profile. In the video, the Glory champion can be seen surprising Aspinall with a sudden takedown, sending his rival to the ground amid laughter and surprised looks from those present at the training session.

“I surprised the champion Tom aspinall while we trained kickboxing with my takedown skills (laughs),” Verhoeven wrote in the caption of the publication, showing good humor about the situation.
Despite the lighthearted tone, the episode reignites speculation about a possible move by the Dutch giant to MMA. At 34, Rico remains dominant in Glory Kickboxing, but he doesn't hide his curiosity about the world, especially when names like Alex Poatán e Israel adesanya, also from kickboxing backgrounds, found great success in the octagon.
