In a video posted on Instagram, Diego Lopes is shown practicing the elbow strike in different sessions during his training. In the caption, he revealed a dialogue with his coaches, Francisco Grasso and Hoodler Martinez, during the break between the first and second rounds, when the strike was predicted as the best strategy.
“'He lost the first round, he's going all out in this one, stay alert and ready for counter-attacks.', 'That's it, man, get ready, if he exposes himself, you'll get him.'”, wrote Diego Lopes.

Diego Lopes in the UFC
Diego Lopes' journey in the UFC began after a frustrating stint on the Contender Series. Following his loss on the reality show, the Brazilian gained recognition by accepting a last-minute fight against Movsar Evloev. Despite the subsequent defeat, the black belt made a good impression by making life difficult for the Russian and nearly securing a submission.
Subsequently, Diego racked up five consecutive victories and even challenged for the belt against Alexander Volkanovski. Despite not winning against the champion, the Mexican representative returned to winning ways by defeating Jean Silva at Noche UFC.
