Alexander Volkanovsky may even have opened the doors for an immediate rematch against Diego lopes, but not everyone sees this scenario as the best choice. Former fighter and current commentator, Michael chiesa assessed the featherweight champion's situation and recommended that he seek new fights in his UFC career.
For the analyst, although Diego lopes has returned to the radar with the victory over Jean Silva No. Night UFC, Ultimate's logic points to another name. In Chiesa's view, the undefeated Lerone murphy, buoyed by a devastating knockout of Aaron Pico in August, would be the ideal opponent for the Australian.

“For the time we have left with Volkanovski, I think we want to see him in new fights. At least for me, as a fan, I love new fights. I think Lerone murphy stamped his passport by going undefeated in main event fights in the UFC and doing what he did with Aaron Pico with three weeks notice,” Chiesa told MMA Junkie.
While he sees merit in Murphy, Chiesa made no secret of what, in his view, would be the most dangerous matchup for the champion. The commentator highlighted that Diego lopes after the defeat in UFC 314 would make a rematch even tougher for Volkanovski and recommended that the Australian avoid such a confrontation.
“I think the big challenge for Volkanovski is not Lerone murphy. The biggest challenge for Volkanovski would be Diego lopes, who put a lot of pressure on him in the first fight. A fighter of the caliber of Diego lopes only gets better after a loss when he's at his peak. He's been spending time with Oklahoma State Wrestling, and I think it would be Volkanovski's most dangerous match. If I were Volkanovski's team, I'd look for new matches. After he retires, put him in Diego lopes for the vacant title, but I wouldn’t like a rematch,” he added.
