Mauricio Ruffy may have made a terrible choice in his training camp to face Benoit Saint Denis at UFC Paris. The Brazilian, who was dominated in the grappling and finalized In the second stage, it appears that he did not pay due attention to takedown defenses, since Flavio Alvaro, responsible for the sector at Fighting Nerds, was not part of the preparation.

"I had a lot of contact with Luffy, to be honest. I wasn't part of the camp, I didn't have much access to the training, I saw very little of it. But that was the biggest surprise for me. Honestly, I thought he was the perfect opponent for the role," said the coach.
The coach believes that Ruffy brought some kind of problem into the octagon, which would explain his performance, as, according to him, the athlete is the best takedown defender he has ever trained.
"Something was really wrong with Ruffy, and we have to understand that and make sure it doesn't happen again... I'm 100% sure that Ruffy has become the best takedown defense I've ever seen. I've been training Ruffy since he was 18 years old. Ruffy learned everything I had to teach him and improved," said Flavio Alvaro.
Signed through the Contender Series, Mauricio Ruffy debuted in the UFC in April 2024 and, since then, has accumulated three wins in the organization, two by knockout, and only one loss.
