Renato Moicano had an answer on the tip of his tongue to the accusation of Alex Poatán, but chose not to respond. Recently, the former champion pranked the lightweight (up to 70,3 kg), feigning anger and making it clear that he would resolve the dispute personally. Despite not knowing it was a joke and trying to defuse the situation, the Brasilia native almost escalated the situation even further when he made the call.
In a video published on his YouTube channel, Renato Moicano reacted to the prank call of Alex Poatán and revealed that he thought about doubling down on the former champion, but kept his words to himself.

“I thought about saying something like this: 'My brother, I have two things to tell you: first, I don't even like to travel; and, in Florida, I only carry a gun.' I thought about saying that, but since I'm going to tell Poatan this, then I have to follow through, right? The hard part is following through,” said Moicano.
Despite the scare, Moicano makes it clear that, in moments of tension, like the joke, the ideal is to not get into an argument and just listen to what the other party has to say.
"In these times, it's best to just listen, my friend. In life, sometimes it's better not to argue or argue. In the end, everyone will only understand for themselves what they want to hear. I thought the guy was angry, let's hear what he has to say. But then he said it was a joke, so thank God." Renato Moicano.

After stringing together four UFC wins, Renato Moicano had the chance to fight for the lightweight division belt (up to 70,3 kg). However, the Brazilian was no match for Islam makhachev and ended up being finished in the first stage. Next, Moicano faced Beneil Dariush and lost by unanimous decision.
Alex Poatán, in turn, defended the light heavyweight belt (up to 93 kg) three times in 2024 and was eventually dethroned by Magomed Ankalayev, in what would be his fourth defense. The Brazilian will have the chance to regain the title at UFC 320, scheduled for October 4th, when he will have a rematch against the Russian.
