Alex Poatan chooses Carlos Prates as his favorite Brazilian fighter in the UFC

Alex Poatán is one of the biggest stars in the UFC, but he also has his fan side. Scheduled to face Magomed Ankalayev again this Saturday (4), in Las Vegas (USA), the Brazilian was short and blunt when electing Carlos Prates as the compatriot he most enjoys watching in action.

During the media day of the UFC 320The former UFC champion praised the member of the 'Fighting Nerds' team. And Poatan's choice makes sense, since Prates, like him, is a striking specialist, a knockout artist, and competes regularly.

It's no surprise that the athlete is one of Brazil's standouts in the UFC and a fan favorite. Regardless, the renowned striker made clear his support for all his compatriots to win their respective fights and advance in the world's largest MMA organization.

Favorite fighter? I root for all Brazilians, but there's no one in particular. I root for everyone. When I see a Brazilian fighting, I'm right there cheering. Just like Carlos Prates. He's a guy I like to watch, his style,” said the veteran.

Discovered by the 'Contender Series' program in 2023, the 'Fighting Nerds' product debuted in the UFC the following season and rose rapidly. To date, Prates has competed in six fights, winning five, all by knockout and earning 'Performance of the Night' bonuses, and lost one to Ian Machado Garry. Currently, the Brazilian is ranked ninth in the company's welterweight ranking (up to 77,1 kg).
