Galvão Bueno laments widespread fight between Popó and Wanderlei Silva's teams: 'Shameful'

The general brawl between the teams of Acelino Popó and Wanderlei Silva at the end of Spaten Fight Night 2 went viral, to the point that even Galvão Bueno gave his opinion on it. Known for his often critical tone in his commentary, the legendary professional lamented the confusion seen in the ring at the event held last Saturday (27), in São Paulo.

In the opening of the show "Galvão e Amigos," the veteran sportscaster made his dismay at the violent incident clear and didn't mince words. The commentator even called the brawl shameful for both those involved, longtime combat sports professionals, and for boxing. After the fight, Wanderlei was attacked by the son of the icon of the noble art and was knocked unconscious. Popó was attacked by André Dida, the "Mad Dog's" trainer and friend.

"Now I speak with great sadness. I broadcast many boxing matches of Muhammad Ali, Eder Jofre, and Popó, who is a four-time world champion. Wanderlei is a professional with that tough look, but with a great heart, and excellent skills in MMA. It's impossible to let a bad example at the end of this boxing match go unpunished. Moment to forget

The boxing match ended with Popó's victory by disqualification, after Wand repeatedly landed illegal strikes. Even so, Galvão emphasized that the brawl between the teams overshadowed the actual fight. And no wonder, since the grand event, which was supposed to be a celebration, ended up turning into a war zone.

"The fight was unequal because they were fighters from different sports, but that couldn't happen in the end. That invasion, the fight, the aggression from both sides, was a very sad thing for a sport where we've had great moments," concluded the legendary commentator.
