UFC champion responds to Charles do Bronx's challenge for a rematch after his UFC Rio victory: 'We have a history'

After the Brazilian's triumph at UFC Rio, Max Holloway reacted to the call for a rematch and showed interest in defending the 'BMF' belt

It seems, Max Holloway must really be the next step of Charles of the Bronx in the UFC. The Brazilian finished Mateusz gamrot in the main fight of UFC Rio, held this Saturday (11), and, in his post-fight speech, challenged the Hawaiian to a rematch for the 'BMF' belt at UFC Casa Branca, a challenge that his rival seems to have approved.

During a live broadcast on the Kick platform, Max Holloway revealed that he considers it a good idea to face Charles of the BronxHowever, he made it clear that he intends to return to action as soon as possible and, therefore, is considering fighting before UFC Casa Branca.

"We're here, bro. We heard the challenge, now it's just a wait and see, bro. It's a White House kind of fight. But it's going to take a long time to happen. It's going to be a long wait... It would be a fun fight, and we've been talking about it for a while," he said. Max Holloway.

Charles of the Bronx e Max Holloway They faced each other in 2015. On that occasion, the Hawaiian had his arm raised after the Brazilian suffered an esophageal injury. The champion says a rematch could be the perfect opportunity to leave no doubt about who is the best.

"He and I have a history. He's blaming some injury, but I think now we'll be able to settle this in a fight. I think now we'll be able to really find out. The guy is good, but so am I," continued the BMF champion.

the last fight of Max Holloway was in the main fight of UFC 318, when he defeated Dustin poirier by the judges' decision. The Hawaiian was scheduled to return in November, but a hand injury postponed his plans. Now, the former featherweight champion assures that he is recovering and intends to return as soon as possible.

"My hand is getting better, it's recovering well. We're just waiting for the doctor's approval. I'm not back on the mats yet, I'm just doing strength and conditioning training. But I'll be back sooner rather than later," concluded the Hawaiian.

With the victory over Mateusz gamrot at UFC Rio, Charles of the Bronx reached 36 career wins and extended his record as the greatest finisher in UFC history with 17 submission victories. Furthermore, the Brazilian also holds the record for most stoppages in the event's history, now totaling 21 quick wins.
