Finishing Mateusz Gamrot was part of Charles do Bronx's plan at UFC Rio, held last Saturday (11). In the main event, the Brazilian posed a threat to the Pole from the first minutes, took his rival down in the second round and forced to give the three patsHowever, the former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) almost deviated from the plan.
In an interview with UFC Brazil, Charles do Bronx revealed that submitting Mateusz Gamrot was part of his strategy. However, he admitted that he deviated from the plan by attempting a guillotine choke and ending the fight early, but he managed to recover, stay calm, and secure the victory.

“We knew it would be a difficult (first) round, because he comes on strong. I was greedy during the takedown and tried to get him right away, but I recovered, stayed calm, without panicking, so I could get him… and when I got his back, I was in the zone. I trained for that the entire camp,” said Charles do Bronx.
With his victory over Mateusz Gamrot at UFC Rio, Charles Oliveira reached 36 career wins and extended his record as the UFC's all-time leading finisher with 17 submission victories. Furthermore, the Brazilian also holds the record for most submissions in the event's history, now totaling 21 wins by stoppage.
