Called in at the last minute to compete in the main event of UFC Vancouver, Brendan Allen lived up to the organization's expectations. This Saturday (18), in Canada, the American, considered an underdog, surprised and defeated Reinier De Ridder by technical knockout via submission in the fourth round, in an extremely important fight valid for the middleweight division (up to 83,9 kg).
Originally, Anthony Hernandez was scheduled to face the Dutchman in the main event, but he withdrew after suffering an injury. Therefore, Allen took the fight, ignoring his underdog status against De Ridder and ending his undefeated streak in the UFC. Furthermore, the American, ranked ninth in the middleweight division before the fight, should enter the top 5 of the division with his second consecutive victory.
Allen issues challenges
Excited by his victory, the biggest of his career, Allen, a grappling specialist, challenged champion Khamzat Chimaev. If he doesn't get the fight, the American expressed a desire to face Dricus Du Plessis, the former title holder.

Without hesitation, De Ridder sought to grapple in the opening seconds. Alert, Allen defended himself. However, the Dutchman managed to take him down and ended up on top of his opponent. De Ridder controlled the American and, from behind, landed powerful punches.
In the second round, Allen returned to the attack. However, De Ridder quickly took him to the fence and took him down. From the American's back, the Dutchman sought a submission but lost the position and ended up on bottom. On the ground and on top, Allen landed hard elbows on his opponent.
In the third round, De Ridder quickly took the American down and took his back. Calmly, Allen reversed the position, got on top, and punished his opponent with a series of punches. Even from the bottom, De Ridder lunged and went for a triangle choke, but the American defended.
In the fourth round, Allen surprised the Dutchman, quickly taking him down, and controlled him throughout, landing punches and elbows. During the break in the fifth round, De Ridder informed his corner that he was unwell and did not return to the fight. Thus, the referee declared Allen the winner by technical knockout.
Controversial Co-Principal Fight
The first round of the welterweight fight was controversial. Mike Malott landed two illegal blows on Kevin Holland, who immediately acknowledged them. After receiving the second, a knee to the groin, the American complained to the referee and insisted on using the five minutes available to recover. However, Holland continued to complain and even considered leaving the fight, claiming he was unable to continue.
After meeting with the referee and the doctor in charge of the event, the athlete, despite being injured in a delicate area and visibly weakened, did not give up. Despite the situation, the American fought as best he could and even had some good moments in the second round, but he was in survival mode. With the fight in his hands, the Canadian didn't give up and landed powerful punches and kicks on his opponent.
In the third and final round, Holland was more aggressive. However, Malott defended himself and landed a beautiful takedown on the American. On the ground, the Canadian nearly submitted Holland via arm-and-neck choke, but failed. At the end of the 15-minute bout, the Canadian defeated the veteran by unanimous decision.
