Gilbert Durinho has a strong opinion about fighters who quit in the middle of a fight. In the main event of UFC Vancouver, held last Saturday (18), Reinier de Ridder give up The Brazilian fighter conceded the victory in the break between the fourth and fifth rounds, a decision that drew criticism from fans and the media. However, the Brazilian thinks differently.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Durinho highlighted that submissions are not uncommon in the UFC and used Alex Poatan's victory over Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320 as an example. For the welterweight division, every fighter has a limit, and if that limit isn't enough to win, there's no problem in ending the fight.

“There are several other occasions where a guy sees that things are going badly and asks to quit. Ankalaev (against Poatan) wasn't knocked out. He took a punch, went for the legs, took a bunch of elbows and said: 'I'm going to stay here until the referee stops it'. That's what I'm saying. It's not giving up, the guy reached his limit. I don't like to call it giving up, because I think everyone has a ceiling, a maximum they can give. If it didn't work out then, it won't work out anymore. It's over for the guy,” said Gilbert Durinho.

Reinier de Ridder debuted in the UFC in November 2024 and, in his first year in the organization, accumulated four victories, three of them by stoppage and one by split decision over former champion Robert Whittaker. The Dutchman saw his good run come to an end when he was defeated by Brendan Allen, in a duel that could have guaranteed him a chance to fight for the middleweight belt (up to 83,9 kg).
