Aspinall, Gane, Virna and Mackenzie make weight and confirm title fights at UFC 321

Everything is set for the grand and highly anticipated UFC 321. In the early hours of this Friday (24), the athletes scheduled for the event this Saturday (25) went through the challenge against the scale. Mainstays of the card, Tom Aspinall, Ciryl Gane, Virna Jandiroba and Mackenzie Dern successfully weighed in and confirmed title fights in the heavyweight (up to 120,2kg) and strawweight (up to 52,1kg) divisions, respectively.

Heading into his first title defense in his reign, Aspinall showed no difficulty in cutting weight, weighing in at 115,6 kg (254 lb), heavier than the title challenger, who weighed in at 112,2 kg (244 lb). In the penultimate fight of the event, Jandiroba and Mackenzie both weighed in at the strawweight title limit of 52,1 kg (112.1 lb).

Three other fighters who will represent the green and yellow flag in the octagon also had great success when making weight. First to appear at the event, Jaqueline Amorim weighed 52,6kg, using the one-pound allowance. Valter Walker appeared confident and relaxed, weighing in at 110,6kg, and the only male representative on the main card, Jailton Malhadinho, weighed in at 107,5kg, for the biggest fight of his career so far.

Weight problems

Competing in the flyweight division (up to 56,7kg), Azamat Maksum weighed in above the permitted limit (58,1kg) and will give 30% of his purse to his rival Mitch Raposo, who weighed in at 56,9kg.

In the featherweight division (up to 65,7kg), José Miguel Delgado also failed to meet the deadline and weighed in at 66,6kg, being fined 20% of his purse, which was given to his opponent Nathaniel Wood (66,2kg).
