Jailton Malhadinho missed the chance to establish himself as the next challenger in the heavyweight division (up to 120,2 kg). The Brazilian faced Alexander Volkov on the main card of UFC 321, held this Saturday (25), in Abu Dhabi, and, despite having applied takedowns and exerted dominance on the ground, ended up defeated by split decision of the judges.

With the negative result, Malhadinho saw his two-fight winning streak come to an end. The Brazilian, ranked fifth in the division, suffered his second defeat in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). On the other hand, Volkov, a consolidated contender in the division's elite, recovered from his loss to Ciryl Gane in the last round.
Malhadinho began the fight by taking down Volkov, who, from below, landed elbows and was warned by the referee. Despite controlling his opponent, he didn't cause significant damage, and Volkov quickly reversed the position, landing punches and elbows. In the second round, Malhadinho took down the Russian again, receiving boos from the crowd and attempting to take his back, but to no avail, being told to stand up.
In the third round, Volkov attacked and applied knees in the clinch, while Malhadinho responded with takedowns, keeping the offense limited and causing little damage.

I wanted to come here and complain about Malhadinho's defeat, but I can't.
A very poor performance for someone who arrived in Abu Dhabi saying they were going to win and fight for the title.
