Chael Sonnen criticizes Tom Aspinall for ending fight after eye poke at UFC 321

Former fighter says champion should have continued and that “fighting with only one eye is common”

During the ESPN North American broadcast, the former title challenger took aim at Aspinall, stating that similar situations are part of the fighters' reality.

"Fighting with one eye is very common. You're the heavyweight champion of the world. Sometimes you have to fight with one eye," Sonnen said, sounding reproving.

The fight ended in the first round after Gane accidentally poked his opponent in the eye. Aspinall attempted to regain his vision during the medical timeout, but declared he couldn't see. Referee Jason Herzog ruled a no contest, keeping the Englishman as the division champion.

The crowd at the Etihad Arena reacted with frustration. Amid boos, Aspinall responded with a rant.

"Guys, I just got poked in the eye. Why are you booing? I can't see," the fighter protested, before being taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.

Without participating in the press conference, Aspinall is still awaiting the results of the tests, while UFC president Dana White has already signaled that a rematch with Gane will be scheduled as soon as the champion has recovered.
