Alex Poatan finally found the explanation for his overwhelming victory over Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320. The Brazilian steamrolled the Dagestani fighter and won by knockout in just 80 seconds. However, recently Ali Abdelaziz, the Russian's manager, hinted that the Pataxó fighter's triumph was due to a rib injury suffered by his client.
In an Instagram post echoing the businessman's statement, Alex Poatan made a point of commenting and, in an ironic tone, reinforced that the injury explains the outcome of the fight and wished his rival a speedy recovery.

"Now it's explained! Get well soon," Poatan wrote alongside a bandaged heart emoji.
Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Poatan had previously faced each other at UFC 313 , held in March 2025. On that occasion, the Russian dominated the fight and won by unanimous decision.
Ali Abdelazis claims injury hampered Ankalaev's preparation for UFC 320.
Magomed Ankalaev was not in his best condition to face Alex Poatan at UFC 320, according to his manager, Ali Abdelaziz. The Dagestani fighter was knocked out by the Brazilian in just 80 seconds, but, according to his agent, a rib injury that kept him out of training for almost 40 days limited his training during preparation, being a determining factor in his below-par performance.
“Ankalaev didn’t train for almost 40 days for this fight. He came back from Dagestan with bruised ribs, and we had to stop sparring every time… He didn’t do any grappling or wrestling training,” said Ali Abdelaziz.
