Despite announcing his retirement, Jon Jones clearly has one remaining commitment as an MMA fighter: to face Alex Poatan at the White House. The American publicly expressed interest last Wednesday (5) in sharing the octagon with the Brazilian at the event commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Independence of the United States, scheduled for June next year.

According to Bones, turning the duel into reality would be the best option not only for the athletes involved, but especially for the organization.

“I would love to fight Alex Pereira at the White House. He’s incredibly respected, he’s a household name. He’s a champion and is in the discussion for one of the best of all time. It would be a huge event. I think the whole world would want to watch. I’ve beaten many Brazilians in my career and regardless of how this fight goes, nobody loses,” Jones stated in an interview on the 'No Scripts' podcast .

Two of the most well-known names today, both Poatan and Jones have expressed interest in facing each other on several occasions. After knocking out Magomed Ankalaev and regaining the light heavyweight title (up to 93 kg) at UFC 320, the Brazilian stated that his next fight should be in the heavyweight division (up to 120,2 kg).

However, even with the athletes' mutual interest, both will need to convince Dana White. The UFC CEO has already stated that he doesn't trust Jones enough to leave the main attraction of one of the biggest events in the company's history in the hands of the former fighter, who has been the target of several controversies outside the octagon and was even the reason for the cancellation of UFC 151 in 2012.
