Islam Makhachev already has a plan drawn up for what comes after UFC 322, scheduled for next Saturday (15). The Dagestani abandoned the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg) to face Jack Della Maddalena for the welterweight throne (up to 77kg) and, although the Australian represents a complicated challenge, he is already thinking about going further.

In an interview with Adin Ross during a Kick broadcast, Islam Makhachev revealed that, should he win the welterweight title at UFC 322, he intends to face Kamaru Usman in his first title defense. The Russian highlighted that the Nigerian holds the record for title defenses in the division and emphasized that the former champion is in good form to return to the top of the division.
"After Jack, Kamaru. He has the most title defenses in the welterweight division and is now in a good position," said Islam Makhachev.
Despite Islam Makhachev 's interest in facing Kamaru Usman , the Nigerian may have a headache in the coming weeks, as the welterweight division promises to be one of the busiest and most competitive at the moment.
At UFC 322, Sean Brady , ranked number two, faces Michael Morales , while Leon Edwards , ranked fourth, takes on Carlos Prates . The following week, at UFC Qatar, scheduled for November 22nd, Ian Garry faces Belal Muhammad , the current number one in the division.
