According to the fighter, the opportunities that the belt brought resulted in a less controlled lifestyle, leaving him psychologically disconnected from the routine of a UFC champion in terms of leisure time.
“At that point in my career, I lost focus and was concentrating too much on the lifestyle and the things that came with it. Women, parties — not in the sense of drinking and drugs and things like that — but simply being at the party. I was invited everywhere and ended up becoming a socialite. I feel like that took the place where the focus should have been,” Woodley recalled in an interview with 'MMA Fighting'.

When reflecting on why he made those decisions at that specific point in his career, the former champion couldn't help but mention the difficult life in Ferguson, one of the most dangerous cities in the United States.
“I grew up in the world capital of homicide. I'm a street kid. So, what I managed to do was something different, to show my family, to show the people in my city that it was possible. To show them that something positive could emerge from this environment. I was giving energy, feeding, and basically sponsoring 10-year-old Tyron who couldn't afford a pair of brand-name sneakers, who girls didn't want to get near. I was giving myself everything I didn't have when I was younger. I simply started living two different lives. I was a great father. A great athlete. A terrible husband, and I lived like a rock star,” concluded the former MMA fighter.
