Alex Poatan makes no secret of his desire to make history once again in the UFC. After dominating the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg), the Brazilian is already aiming for an even bigger challenge: moving up to heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg). And, for Jan Blachowicz , former champion of the 93 kg category, the plan makes perfect sense.
It was Blachowicz who faced Poatan in the light heavyweight division at UFC 291 , in a fight marked by a contrast in styles. On that occasion, Alex emerged victorious by split decision. Since then, the Native American has experienced a meteoric rise. Now, the next step could be even more ambitious.
In an interview with Home of Fight, Jan Blachowicz made it clear that he would like to see the Brazilian testing his limits among the giants of the UFC, including against Jon Jones . Although "Bones" is no longer the current champion of the division, the matchup is still considered a super fight. And, in Blachowicz's view, Alex has enough weapons to surprise even one of the biggest names in MMA history.
“I would like to see Poatan in the heavyweight division. What he did in the light heavyweight division is incredible. It’s a very beautiful trajectory. I’m envious, in a good way. I’m a fan of his… I think he can beat Jon Jones . Alex has knockout power. He can finish this fight early,” said the Polish fighter.

At UFC 291 , Jan Blachowicz started better, imposing his takedown game and control in the first round, coming close to a submission. Gradually, however, Alex Poatan adjusted his distance, began to punish his opponent's leg, and evened the fight on the feet.
In the final rounds, the Brazilian improved, defended takedown attempts better, and asserted his superior striking. Even though the Pole still took the fight to the ground at certain points, Poatan's volume and precision were decisive in securing the close decision in his favor.
Now, with his confidence high and a history of terrifying knockouts, Alex Poatan sees the heavyweight division as a chance to enter territory reserved for a select few and, who knows, challenge Jon Jones in a duel that could stop the MMA world.
