Maurício Ruffy explains the absence of the Fighting Nerds leader in his corner at his next UFC fight.

MMA prospect, Mauricio Ruffy is broadening his horizons. A long-time member of the 'Fighting Nerds' team, the Brazilian has also joined the team of Alexander Volkanovsky, featherweight champion (up to 65,8 kg). And the new partnership is so strong that the athlete has already announced that he will have a different corner in his fight against Raphael Fiziev, which happens in the UFC 325, on January 31st, in Australia.

In his fights, Ruffy usually has Pablo Sucupira and Flávio Álvaro, the two main coaches of the São Paulo team, in his corner. However, for his next fight, the athlete announced that he will not have the pair with him and made a point of explaining why.

The striker clarified that there are no relationship problems between him and the professionals who have been with him for years and revealed that the decision, however surprising, was made by mutual agreement. Furthermore, Ruffy has already confirmed that he will remain on the 'nerds' team.

“This time they won’t be there. Pablo has a commitment with Jean a week before my fight, and right after that, there’s also Caio’s fight. He’ll be with Caio in Vegas for a month. So, he would be away from home for two months, and he has a small baby,” the athlete said in an interview with 'The Ariel Helwani Show'.

"Then I told him that everything was fine, that he didn't need to worry, that I would be with Volka's team. Volka would give me some directions here, I already brought two corner kicks with me and I'll bring the third one from here. So, we made this plan and agreed on it like this," he concluded.

Ruffy in the UFC

Mauricio Ruffy, 29 years old, is a promising MMA fighter and competes in the UFC's lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg). Discovered on the reality show 'Contender Series' in 2023, the Brazilian debuted in the sport's largest organization a year later, winning three fights, two by knockout, and losing one. Currently, he is ranked 14th in the division.
