Poatan's manager reveals hope for fight against Jon Jones: 'It could happen'

Ed Soares, businessman of Alex Poatán, spoke about a possible fight between the Brazilian and Jon JonesThe Pataxó agent went further, commenting on the possibility of the indigenous fighter moving up to heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg) in 2026. The current light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg) has frequently expressed interest in facing the American and has also never ruled out moving up a weight class.

In an interview with 'The Ariel Helwani Show', Ed reinforced that, although the fight against the American has not yet materialized, the Pataxó fighter's agent hopes the duel will happen. The manager does not rule out significant changes in the fighter's career in 2026, leaving open the possibility of the fighter moving up to heavyweight this year.

"Potentially. Potentially true (about fighting at heavyweight in 2026)... Look, anything can happen. We still have hope for that (about fighting against)." Jon JonesYes. But ultimately, we need to see how things unfold. He (Poatan) still has some fights left on his contract.

We would love for that fight to happen (Poatan and Jones), but he would also need some time, because Alex usually weighs between 104 and 107 kilos on a daily basis. When camp starts, he would like to gain a little more muscle mass if he were to move up to heavyweight.

But Alex is like that, man, he's tough. If you put an interesting fight in front of him, he'll take it. Just remember that he was in Australia, doing seminars and appearances, and defended the belt with only 14 days' notice (in UFC 303"It's incredible to think that someone does that. That's just how he is. He's a real fighter, who accepts challenges and doesn't run away from anyone," said Ed Soares.

Poatan has already expressed interest in moving up to heavyweight to specifically face the American at UFC Casa Branca, scheduled for June, however, in a post on her own InstagramThe Brazilian fighter seemed incredulous about this possibility.
