Known for his flashy takedown moves in his UFC fights, Mauricio Ruffy was seen training with Alex Poatan 's eternal rival , Nigerian Israel Adesanya . The former middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg), who has faced the Brazilian four times, winning one and losing the others, asked Mauricio to practice the technique until he understood the step-by-step process. 'The Last Stylebender' seemed quite excited to learn the Brazilian's famous "scissor" takedown.

In a video posted to his Instagram feed, the Nigerian fighter showed himself attentively observing Ruffy's instructions. Focused on the Brazilian's movements, Adesanya quickly managed to apply the "scissor" takedown to the lightweight fighter (up to 70,3 kg). Mauricio, who has a fight scheduled against Rafael Fiziev at UFC 325 on January 31st in Sydney, Australia, has also been training with other athletes. Among these, the Brazilian has already shared training sessions with Alexander Volkanovski , the current featherweight champion (up to 65,7 kg).

At 29 years old, Ruffy has a record of 12 wins and two losses in his professional MMA career. The Brazilian reached the UFC through 'Dana White's Contender Series', where he defeated Raimond Magomedaliev via technical knockout in the third round in October 2023.

Since then, the Brazilian fighter has accumulated four fights in the company. Maurício officially debuted in Dana White's organization with a victory against Jamie Mullarkey via technical knockout in the first round of UFC 301 , in May 2024, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

With a fight scheduled for UFC 325, Ruffy seeks to improve his record, as he is coming off a loss against Benoit St. Denis via submission at UFC Fight Night 258 in September 2025.
