Deiveson Figueiredo highlights the power of faith when recalling a serious car accident: 'The hand of God protected me'

This Saturday (24), in Las Vegas (USA), Deiveson Figueiredo will have his first fight of the 2026 season and celebrates simply being fit to compete at UFC 324. For many, the Brazilian's motivation may seem simple, as he is a fighter, but there is an explanation. In October, 'God of War' experienced a real drama when he suffered a serious car accident in Belém, capital of Pará.

At the time, Deiveson's vehicle was hit by another car, rolled over several times, and was totaled. Despite the strong impact, the former flyweight champion (up to 57 kg) emerged unscathed from the accident. So much so that the veteran remained in the fight against Umar Nurmagomedov , Khabib's cousin, which is extremely important for the bantamweight division (up to 61,2 kg). Recalling the episode, which he described as a 'miracle', the Brazilian, who has always shown himself to be religious, emphasized that his faith protected him and prevented the worst from happening.

“There was a car accident, and I even lost my car because the impact was so strong. God's hand protected me there. I came out of the accident without any injuries to my body,” said the former champion at the UFC 324 media day.

“My car was armored. The car was armored, and I was armored by God, you understand? Thank God I'm here. The UFC changed my life, and today I have the means to buy another car, and that's what I did,” he concluded.

Deiveson's fighters in MMA

Deiveson Figueiredo , 38, is a veteran of MMA and has had a successful career. The Brazilian began his journey in the sport in 2012, debuted in the UFC in 2017, and became flyweight champion twice, in 2020 and 2022. Currently, the veteran is ranked sixth in the bantamweight division.

In this sport, the Paraense athlete built a record of 25 wins, five losses, and one draw. His main victories were over Alexandre Pantoja , Brandon Moreno , Cody Garbrandt , Joseph Benavidez (twice), Marlon Vera , Rob Font , and Tim Elliott.
