Too easy! Khabib's cousin mocks Deiveson after victory at UFC 324: 'The training sessions were harder'

Considered the overwhelming favorite to win in UFC 324, Umar Nurmagomedov, in fact, did not have any work in the octagon. At the event held last Saturday (24), in Las Vegas (USA), the cousin of Khabib Nurmagomedov dominated Deiveson Figueiredo, won by unanimous decision and moved closer to challenging for the bantamweight title (up to 61,2 kg) for the second time. And the ease of the fight surprised even the Russian.

At the post-UFC 324Umar, candidly, stressed that the preparation to face the Brazilian, former flyweight champion (up to 57 kg), and his training partners demanded more from him than the fight itself. In the fight, the Russian was better in the striking exchanges, easily took Deiveson down, controlled him on the ground, and punished him with ground and pound. As expected, the athlete celebrated the important victory and blamed the veteran's passivity for the fight being a rather unexciting one-sided affair.

“I expected it to be harder, but it was easier than training. I try to give my best, fight like an assassin, but when your opponent isn't fighting, it's a little difficult to have a competitive fight. My plan was to try everything to get the victory. Thank God, I succeeded, and God made things easier for me. A win is a win. Of course, it could have been a better fight, but he needed to do something. Not just in the last ten seconds of every round,” said the athlete.

“He’s a former champion, a tough guy, who isn’t easy. I don’t know why he didn’t try harder, but he’s a tough guy. When I took him down, he got up and I felt he had strength, but I don’t know. Maybe he was afraid to try, he wasn’t in shape and that’s why he didn’t make weight. I don’t know, but it’s none of my business. I did what I had to do and I think I did a good job,” he concluded.
