Tom Aspinall , the current UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg), shared new images of his recent surgery. The Englishman, who has been sidelined after suffering a serious eye injury in his fight against Cyril Gane at UFC 321 in October 2025, is completing essential stages of his recovery, aiming for his return to the octagon.

In a video shared on X, formerly Twitter, the 32-year-old fighter appears in the operating room undergoing the procedure. The heavyweight champion is being closely monitored by the team at Optegra, the ophthalmological clinic responsible for the Englishman's treatment.

Tom Aspinall has no plans to return to UFC competition, says journalist.

According to British journalist Peter Carroll, the fighter isn't even thinking about returning to competition at this stage of his recovery. Aspinall is dealing with a constant black spot in his vision, double vision on one side, which prevents him from properly sparring, and also makes it difficult for him to track moving objects.

Tom Aspinall's MMA career

Tom Aspinall made his professional MMA debut in December 2014, when he emerged victorious from his battle against Michał Piszczek at MMA Versus UK. The Englishman won the fight via technical knockout (punches). Aspinall also fought in the BAMMA, Full Contact Contender, and Cage Warriors organizations before signing with the UFC.

One of the top athletes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) today, Aspinall has already defeated names like Andrei Arlovski , Serghei Spivac , and Marcin Tybura during his time with Dana White's organization.

Current UFC heavyweight champion, Aspinall defeated Sergei Pavlovich for the interim title at UFC 295 in November 2023. A little less than a year later, at UFC 304 in July 2024 in his homeland, England, the Englishman defended his belt against Curtis Blaydes.

Despite the victory, the Englishman only became the undisputed champion of the category in June 2025, when Dana White announced that Jon Jones had retired and that Tom Aspinall would be promoted to the position left by the American.
