With no official information yet on the fate of the heavyweight category (up to 120,2 kg) amid Tom Aspinall 's injury , a favorable scenario for Alex Poatan may be about to happen. This Monday (23), Ciryl Gane went public to start a training camp through videos on his social networks, even without an official fight announcement from the Ultimate.

In the post's caption, he avoided giving details about who his next opponent would be, but made it clear that he was waiting for a call from the UFC matchmakers .

"We have to be sharp for the call!", said the fighter, who is in Dubai.

In the videos posted, it is possible to see the former interim heavyweight champion (up to 1202 kg) working on combinations of punches on a punching bag, as well as ground movements.

Currently ranked number one in the most prestigious category of combat sports, Gane last stepped into the octagon against Tom Aspinall , in a fight that ended in a no contest after the Englishman injured his eyes due to a foul committed by the challenger. His return is expected to be against another big name, capable of keeping him at the top of the division.

Current light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg) and the organization's most popular figure, Alex Poatan has expressed his desire to compete in the higher weight class on several occasions, especially at the event to be held at the White House in June of this year. In the post-UFC Houston press conference, Dana White offered his support to help the Brazilian achieve his goal.

If he were to win against Gane for a hypothetical interim title, Poatan would achieve an unprecedented feat. Never in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has a fighter managed to win titles in three different weight classes. Before reigning in his current division, the former kickboxer also held the middleweight title (up to 83,9 kg), which he won with a knockout victory against rival Israel Adesanya.
